Double Key Encryption (DKE) provides organizations with a second encryption key for your most sensitive content. Learn more about DKE and whether it’s suitable for your organization at https://learn.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/compliance/double-key-encryption.

This release adds the DKE functionality to Word, Excel, PowerPoint for Android, matching the functionality already available in Windows, iOS, and Mac.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 472025

When this will happen:

Public Preview: Available in December 2024

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, DoD): We will begin rolling out early January 2025 and plan to complete rollout by late January 2025

How this will affect your organization:

Users can apply sensitivity labels with Double Key Encryption and view DKE-protected files in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Android.

What you need to do to prepare:

This only affects organizations that use double key encryption in their environment and extends the functionality that’s already generally available in Windows, Mac, and iOS to users on Android devices.
